System configured to respond to HTTP requests. The system consists of the programmatic (software) and hardware (hardware) components. Software-daemon or service that is listening on port 80 (standard HTTP) takes requests for issuance of documents, HTML pages, and then passes the relevant documents (HTML pages) to the client browser. Hardware is a computer that is running this service (daemon), as well as hosting and the site itself.

Most Web server supports the additional functions: execute CGI applications and scripts of PHP, ASP, JSP and other logging hits (log files), user authentication.

The most common Web servers: Apache, IIS.
